In memory of V.P. Dudkin (1943 – 2011)

Valery Dudkin (September 2, 1943, Simferopol – 16 April 2011, Kyiv) in 1970 graduated from Kyiv State University and received his degree as a geologist-geophysicist.
V.P. Dudkin was a prominent specialist in the field of geophysics and archeology. Basic research areas: integrated archeometrical research of archeological sites in Ukraine and Moldova, the development of modern methods of study and protection of archaeological monuments of Ukraine, especially in the areas of their destruction; research in geomagnetism and physical properties of soils and sedimentary strata in Ukraine, geochronology and stratigraphy.
Based on their field magnetic surveys V.P. Dudkin performed near 40 reconstructions of architectural plans for ancient settlements of different times in the territory of Ukraine and Moldova, including unique Trypilian protocities Maydanetske, Yatranivka, Hlybochok.
V.P. Dudkin – author of over 80 scientific publications, including monographs "Architecture of Trypilian civilization: from settlements to protocities" (2009, co-authored with M. Yu. Videyko).
In 1995 V.P. Dudkin formed and by 2003 headed the Research Institute of monument protection – the first scientific institution in Ukraine on protection of monuments.
