The plaster of the first stone temple in Vladimir-Suzdal Rus (so called Prince Vladimir Monomakh’s church, end XI – beg. XII cen., destroyed in XIII cen.) is traditionally made of slaked lime with fired clay as filler. Pigments of internal painting are predominantly the earths, ocre, cinnabar, azure stone, chalk. Analytical examination of paint layer suggests the painting to be carried out mainly with tempera paints.
